So it’s 2025, we’re in a cost of living crisis, what can you possibly buy for just 50c?
Coffee’s are going for like $7, and just one myki trip is $5.50.
Maybe a single carrot? Or a tomato? Basically nothing.

Well here’s an idea! The Victorian Green are proposing a six month trial across all of Victoria of 50c public transport fares, just like in Queensland. That’s just 50c for a train, bus or tram trip anywhere in Victoria! Including V-Lines!

In Queensland, public transport users saved over $100 million over the six month trial. Patronage increased across all public transport modes including bus, train, and ferries, with usage of ferries increasing 43%.
This resounding success has resulting in the 50c fares being made permanent after the conclusion of the trial last year.

And all we need to do to fund it is get big corporations to start paying their fair share in taxes.
And we could do the exact same thing here in Victoria!
Implementing this trial would mean $50 a week back into commuter’s pockets. Over the 6 months it would save public transport users $1,200 if they use public transport 5 times a week.
We’re giving you a new use for your loose change.
