Thousands of Nestle employees have gone on strike and here’s why:
Firstly, they’re defending their right to have a weekend.
Nestle is trying to make it mandatory for their workers to come in on weekends.
You would think some things are sacred, but now workers are literally having to fight to have a weekend.
These huge corporation will try anything to lower their bottom line and raise their profits.
And in the case of Nestle, there’s very little they haven’t tried.
Over the years they’ve been accused of aiding and abetting slavery, using child labour, pumping water out of drought stricken countries and selling it back to them in bottles for a profit, extensive deforestation, spreading disinformation about recycling and dressing salespeople as nurses to sell baby formula, union busting…
I could go on, but unfortunately I’d be here all day listing their many, many controversies, unethical and illegal practices.
@aivgoesgreen No more weekends. Mandatory 12 hour shifts. Pay that doesn’t keep up with the cost of living. Nothing is off limits to these mega corporations.

Nestle is also trying to introduce compulsory 12 hour shifts, with the possibility of working 12 hour shifts, 5 days in a row.
And this would be without overtime pay, which workers used to get if they chose to take on extra hours.
The workers are also advocating for their right to have a say in any workplace changes that are introduced.
At the moment, management can do whatever they want without consulting their workers, like making them work on weekends or work 12 hour shifts without overtime.
And lastly, they’re asking for a pay rise that actually keeps up with the cost of living.
Which of course, the multi-billion dollar company says it can’t afford.
It’s the same tired old story, that we hear time and time again.
Huge companies trying to take advantage of their workers to make more money.
But, the more workers and unions stand up for their rights, the more these companies will get the message:
They can’t walk all over their workers and treat them like robots.
The Greens will be in your corner all the way, amplifying your voices and standing with you in solidarity.
