Tesco in the UK are trialling putting new plastic barriers along their shelves to reduce shoplifting.
You simply put these in front of chocolate, and it stops people from being able to reach in and buy it.
Effectively reducing theft of chocolate to zero.
The biggest brains at Woolworths and Coles are watching these closely, thinking up brand new ways to clamp down on shoplifting.
And, it seems, to make shopping is as unbearable as possible in the process.
They’ve already introduced the so-called “smart gates” which use AI facial recognition to decide who is and isn’t allowed to leave the store.
This locks in potential shoplifters, but also most other people who are just going about their day, buying their groceries.
There’s also been trials of security tags on meat.
And locking up honey in boxes.
Presumably these measures have been introduced to make it harder for people to inspect these products properly and realise just how much they’re being ripped off.
But we all know the reason behind people resorting to shoplifting.
It’s a response to a cost of living crisis.
The good news is, the solution is pretty simple:
BRING DOWN YOUR PRICES, COLES & WOOLWORTHS!
We can’t continue to hear stories of families resorting to shoplifting as a way of getting food for their kids.
Putting honey in plastic boxes won’t solve this food affordability crisis.
In a wealthy country like ours, everyone should be able to afford the basics. Putting food on the table shouldn’t require breaking your bank, or the law.
We need to stop supermarket price gouging and break up the duopoly.
