Our police should be there to protect all Victorians.
There is no excuse for them to be wearing far right symbols. Full stop.
The ‘thin blue line’ patch is associated with violent white supremacy and far right extremism.
In America it was flown at the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville.
It is another appalling example of bigots in Australia adopting the symbolism of American hate groups.
Police have been warned against displaying the symbol, being told it goes against organisational values.
Yet reports continue to come in of police wearing this badge.
If we don’t crack down on these ‘seperate incidents’ they can become an ingrained cultural issue.
We can’t let these dangerous ideologies take hold in our police force and affect our multicultural communities.
